Welcome to the Covenant Christian Pre-K page! I would like to thank you for taking a look at what we have to offer. Our mission is to partner with Christian parents in training their children. We do that by providing a nurturing environment and a Christ-centered learning experience. I desire each child to know God more, develop their love of learning, and grow in their social and problem-solving skills.
At Covenant Christian Pre-school we’ll be using two curricula in our program. The first is the Get Set for School™ curriculum by Handwriting Without Tears™. This award-winning Pre-K curriculum is developmentally appropriate and designed so that all children can thrive and build a strong foundation for kindergarten. Get Set for School uses music and movement to engage children and help them develop good learning habits. Children learn actively as they play, color, draw, count, build, and sing. The second curriculum we will be using is A Beka Book. This is a comprehensive curriculum that is written from a Christian perspective. This program offers both a strong foundation in academics and character development.
Our days always begin with Bible or Chapel. The children will be learning the basic Bible stories and what they teach us about who God is, who we are as His children, and how this knowledge shapes our choices. Each Bible story will have a scripture verse that the children will memorize. We will also be learning to pray the Lord’s Prayer as well as simply praying from the heart for ourselves and for others. My prayer and plan is to help each child grow in their understanding of and relationship with God.
After Bible, we will begin our stations. In the beginning of the year, we will be working with the students one to one as we get to know them and their strengths. Throughout the year stations will always be done with groups of 1-4 children. In stations, we will be working on fine motor, number and letter recognition, as well as many other concepts like positional prepositions, one to one correspondence and more. With the small groups, we are able to teach to your child’s level and challenge them to the next level.
One of the stations will be a “free play” time on the rug. Here the children will be learning how to play together, share, and have the chance to use their imaginations. This time will be without direct instruction but not without supervision. The activity choices available will vary from week to week.
Themes are selected throughout the school year that teach and reinforce basic skills such as counting, letter recognition and phonic sound, cooperating with others and following directions. Language development and early literacy are also included through stories, rhymes, songs, drama and role play.
