History & Distinctives

Covenant Christian School has been serving Christ in the Aurora community since 1979. It was founded by a group of families who wanted to provide a loving environment in which to raise up their children in the teaching of God’s Word and a “covenant” of love. We are an independent, board-governed, non-denominational Christian school developing children with Godly character, providing an excellent academic education and training up a generation of leaders for His kingdom. Our curriculum is taught with a Biblical basis and Christian worldview to a diverse group of students from Preschool to 8th grade.

The school has a strong emphasis on equipping disciples for Christ, praise and prayer, critical thinking, Fine Arts and service to the community, nation and world. Some new programs recently developed are an early intervention multi-sensory Preschool curriculum, a dynamic, hands-on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program, and Accelerated Reader, a computer based reading program to equip students to be fluent and proficient readers. Extra-curricular programs include Athletics (Soccer and Basketball), Covenant Singers Children’s Choir, Spanish Club, Computer and Technology Club, Dance and Drama and Band and the El Sistema chidren’s orchestra.

Covenant believes in getting the students engaged and active in Christian service, discovery learning, and investigating God’s created universe and His unique calling on their lives. We offer many opportunities to explore and engage students through hands on learning, field trips, missions, community outreach and connecting with vocational leaders and mission minded people. Our professional staff is qualified, loving and experienced at training students and teaching academics with excellence.

Part of our ongoing vision is to further develop a program of excellence for special needs students in an inclusive setting. We currently have programs for Gifted, Resource/Tutoring, Social Skills and Educational Therapy for mild learning disabilities. Our desire is to see more students with special needs learning side by side with our current students in a supportive and nurturing environment. Currently, we are growing and beginning to outgrow the space that we lease at Westminster Presbyterian Church, so we are looking toward the future and our own property with room to build and grow our community of faith and learning.

The school is a member of the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) and is fully recognized by the Illinois State Board of Education. Our mission statement is; “Covenant Christian School is a Christ-centered, loving, educational community committed to inspiring children to excellence in character, scholarship and leadership.” Covenant is located on the west side of Aurora, with a current enrollment of ninety-five. Our student body comes from a variety of social and economic backgrounds and represents over thirty different churches from the area.
